17th AFG Live Surgery Workshop at Shatabdi Hospital, Kandivali West
The 17th AFG Live Surgery Workshop was successfully conducted under the esteemed presidentship of Dr. Nitin Shah and was spearheaded by Dr. Rajendra Saraogi Sir along with his dedicated team at Shatabdi Hospital.
These live surgery workshops are the flagship academic initiatives of the Association of Fellow Gynaecologists (AFG), Mumbai. The program is designed to provide a strong practical approach to obstetric and gynaecological surgeries, with renowned experts from Mumbai and across India demonstrating advanced procedures through live operative sessions.
Live Surgical Demonstrations
During the workshop, Dr. Samir Pradhan was given the opportunity to perform a Lower Segment Caesarean Section (LSCS). The demonstration included:
- Floating head extraction using forceps
- Closure of uterine incision without exteriorisation
- Non-locking suturing technique for the first uterine layer
- Baseball suturing technique for the second uterine layer
Systematic Devascularisation Techniques
The session was followed by Dr. AbdRabbo’s Systematic Devascularisation, which involved:
- Bilateral uterine artery ligation using the O’Leary technique
- Ligation of the ovarian artery near the ovarian ligament
- Preservation of the fallopian tube
- Precautions to prevent inadvertent injury to mesosalpingeal veins
Advanced Pelvic Vascular Surgery
Under the hand-held preceptorship of his mentor, Dr. Rajendra Saraogi Sir, Dr. Samir Pradhan further demonstrated the advanced procedure of Bilateral Internal Iliac Artery Ligation.
This demonstration provided critical insights into life-saving surgical techniques for managing obstetric haemorrhage, focusing on anatomical precision, surgical safety, and step-by-step execution.
